HEADWATERS:
Our Farmers
Our shareholders form a group of innovative, forward-thinking farm owners and managers who are amongst the best in the world at what they do. Headwaters’ farmers have breathtaking, iconic properties and a genuine affinity for the land and animals, with many of their farms having been held by the same family for many generations past, and many to come.
Integrity is paramount in selecting which farmers have the management skills and experience to join Headwaters and nurture and grow our products. This allows us to ensure extremely high product consistency and timely delivery resulting in an outstanding experience for consumers.

Glenlapa Station joined Headwaters as the progeny test breeding property. It is now the base for one of the Headwaters Breeding flocks. The 3,200 ewes are owned by Glenlapa and any suitable ram lambs are purchased by Headwaters in late March each year, transferred to Lochar Downs in Cromwell.
The Headwaters Breeding ewes live on similar country as the other 7,500 commercial ewes, ensuring that breeding rams are bred in environments similar to where their progeny will be born and raised.
“The goal is to eventually track individual performance of all the breeding ewes in the breeding programme,” Charlie says. “With an EID recording system, DNA parentage and extensive use of body condition scoring and ultrasound procedures we can identify the very best ewes and use these and their respective sires to enhance the profitability of shareholders’ flocks.
