Headwaters sales in 2016/2017 season
A total of 850 Headwaters rams were sold in the past season, compared with 424 in the previous year and 485 the year before. This is the first time rams have been sold in Omega, Sigma and Delta categories (see below).
Headwaters General Manager Ian Hercus says the result for the year was satisfying.
“The quality of conversations with farmers, though, is the most positive development. There’s growing understanding of the importance of investing in genetics that can aid the wellbeing of the animal and the consumer through a proven and known fat profile.”
The three categories are defined as follows:
|1. Headwaters Omega
For the absolute top end market – the best of health-giving qualities, taste and succulenc
|2. Headwaters Sigma
For the top-end grass fed market – high levels of taste and succulence
|3. Headwaters Delta
For either top-end grass or, in future potentially the chicory finishing programme
